To Whom It May Concern:

Hello, I'm writing to you on behalf of the women at the SD Women's Prison in Pierre, SD. My letter is in regards to our 4th Annual Wacipi which will be held on April 5, 2003, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. All visitors must be here by 12:00 pm to get checked in. We would like to ask for your assistance in providing the women with a Wacipi to remember!

We would be very grateful if you could share some of your time and honor us with your presence. Last year we had many participants which included a drum group and many dancers. It will be a blessing if you can attend our Wacipi this year. This would make our Wacipi a success! We are asking for your participation and donations, including funding for dancers, singers, and participants willing to help the women enjoy their culture and heritage. We would lit to have as many participants as possible.

Each individual that attends will need to have forms filled out and mailed back as soon as possible. The deadline to have the forms mailed back here is March 30th 2003. A background check is done on each person. For those of you who are unable to attend but would like to contribute to the Wacipi by means of a donation, please make checks or money orders out to SD Women's Prison Account in care of Aaron Miller at the above address.

If you have any questions about our requests, or if you would like to know more about the Wacipi, please feel free to call the prison and talk with Aaron Miller, Cultural Affairs Coordinator. Phone (605) 773 -6636 Fax (605) 773-3194

We are praying and hoping to have a good Wacipi this year with drum groups and dancers. May the Great Spirit Bless you in your walk of life. Pidamaya, for taking the time to read my letter.

Respectfully yours,
Mary Flying Hawk
President

Tunkashila, Let us stand Coalition strong in protection of our lands, our beliefs, our Sacred Spirituality, and our traditional Indigenous ways of life. We stand in strong support of Indigenous Rights and the Inherent Allodial title of Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota Lands. Let us reclaim what is ours and work diligently to preserve what we now have.

That piece of red, white and blue cloth stands for a system and a country that does not honor it's own word...If it stood for honor and truth, it would remember our treaties and give them the appropriate place under international law. But it doesn't. It dishonors its own word and violates its treaties...
