DLN Issues : Civil Rights

Subject: South Dakota Civil Rights, report released on 3-29-2000

It is two years since the report "NATIVE AMERICANS IN SOUTH DAKOTA---An Erosion of Conidence in the Justice System" was released in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I was there at the arena along with many of the Human and Civil Rights Advocates who attended and participated in the forum in Rapid City, and who Marched in the many towns in and around South Dakota demanding Justice for Our Indian people.

The Recommendations, in #1, The South Dakota Advisory Committee recommends that the Commission on Civil Rights call for the Attorney General to immediately appoint a Federal Task force( including subpoena power) to address the crisis of law enforcement affecting Native Americans, both on and off Indian reservations. Its focus should be on EQUAL protection of the Laws and Civil rights protections. Appointments should include representatives from the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, Office of Justice Programs, Office of Tribal Justice, and Community Relations Service. The U.S. Attorneys in affected jurisdictions should also serve. The Secretary of Interior should be requested to appoint high-level representatives from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which has law enforcement responsibilities in Indian Country. While the task force should consider issues in all areas of the country with significant Native American populations, its initial focus should be on SOUTH DAKOTA, where lack of confidence in the justice system among Native Americans has reached CRISIS proportions.

These are only several paragraphs of the recommendations. I hope you can see that NOTHING has happened and where the WHITE TERRORISTS Acts committed in the WHITE SUPREME town of MIller, South Dakota again show the racial bigotry of the collusion that exists in the Hand County States attorneys office and the disparity that goes with a case like Adelia Rose Godfey--17 yr old Dakota Girl from Sisseton, S.D. The disparity exists there also because of the racial bigotry in the Roberts County states attorney office. Same white sheets in Office.

Whether its happening there in those towns or In Martin, South Dakota, always remember that Mary Frances Berry said things will change this time, and something will be done. Remember she told us that before she left the forum in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Dec. 6. 1999 at the Holiday Inn. Well she owes All of US a apology. Can Our Dear Good friends who read this Please help Us try and find Mary Frances Berry and Wake her and the Commision up and remind them. that there has been and is People being hurt again. Come Back to South Dakota.

Aho Hecetu Yelo. I am sincerely Alfred Bone Shirt

That piece of red, white and blue cloth stands for a system and a country that does not honor it's own word...If it stood for honor and truth, it would remember our treaties and give them the appropriate place under international law. But it doesn't. It dishonors its own word and violates its treaties...
