DLN Nation : Tribal and Traditional Government

In talks with some of the local Rosebud Sioux tribal members (Sicangu Lakota Oyate) it always comes back to our people asking where is the accountability?

Letter to the editor, Black Hills People's News 14 June 2002

In talks with some of the local Rosebud Sioux tribal members (Sicangu Lakota Oyate) it always comes back to our people asking where is the accountability???? The blame always points to the way this same clique, here on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, have their sticky fingers into most of the federal programs and money intended to help our people.

The recent past actions of certain tribal council members and their cohorts, collaborators, are not going unnoticed or unforgiven.

We have a man here, who runs the only legal beer & drinking establishment on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation, sitting on the RST Council. We don't see much of the social problems being addressed from this type of a council, which is basically made of a continued mold, so-called 1/32nd Club Reprentatives, who could care less if the true Lakota are disenfranchised. Like this councilman who bought his way into his position, along with several other relatives.

The continued exploitation of the full-blood members of our Sicangu Lakota people must come to a halt now. To him and his relatives on the programs, here we are, a pain in his heart. We want our living standards upgraded. Our people want good housing and safe alcohol and drug-free communities. But instead we have people who are sitting on their hands, in these positions, where they could do some good to help, instead of moonlighting out at that Club, or looking to line their own nests.

A few of the outstanding questions that are circulating here are: How deep is that scandal with U. S. Reservation Bank & Trust, and who is involved here on the homeland? Where is that 8 million lawsuit at? That was filed by Charlie Colombe against us (Rosebud Sioux Tribe). Where is that lawsuit the RST filed against BBC Entertainment Inc??? Is there a conflict of interest with a member of BBC currently sittong on the tribal council with this lawsuit in the court? Why haven't there been any more houses coming here? What were the findings of that Inspector Generals office? Was he for real? What about a RST TLE Land Audit??? We need good honest Council Representatives who would reconsider some of the perceived, illegal political moves by the last RST Council. (Sinte Gleska University Board of Regents Scandal). Where is the RST Chairman on these issues? Especially the Hog Farm issue? People are asking if he was bought off? Why can't the RST do something about the media suppression? Censorship of KINI 96.1 FM (so-called Voice of the Rosebud)?

These are just some of the many questions alive here on the Rosebud Indian Reservation, asked by a number of disenfranchised Sicangu.

Aho, hecetu yelo.
I am sincerely,
Alfred Bone Shirt

That piece of red, white and blue cloth stands for a system and a country that does not honor it's own word...If it stood for honor and truth, it would remember our treaties and give them the appropriate place under international law. But it doesn't. It dishonors its own word and violates its treaties...
