Rosebud Tribal Election

2003 August

Below are the 107 people who have filed nominating affidavits to run for positions in the Rosebud Sioux tribal government. The Primary Election is for August 28th. The General Election is scheduled for Thursday, October 23rd.

Tribal President candidates incumbent William Kindle, Glen Yellow Eagle, Loretta Jones (a.k.a. Lori Lunderman), Viola A. Burnette, Terry Gray, Edward "Ed" Charging Elk, Sr. and Charles Colombe. Incumbent Vice-president Vernon "Ike" Schmidt has also filed for the Tribal Presidency.

Vice-president candidates: Norman G. Wilson, Gerald Eagle Bear, Sherman D. Wright, Fremont Fallis, Todd Curtis Fast Horse, Violet R. Little Elk, Charlene A. LaPointe, LeRoy Morrison, Jr., Shawn Bordeaux, Sandra Black Bear and Homer Whirlwind Soldier.

The Candidates for the twenty Tribal Council positions that are open follow.

Candidates from District 1 (Winner/Ideal) for one position include incumbent Wayne K. Ducheneaux, Charles W. Herman, Gabrielle Medicine Eagle, Darrell Herman, Charles Long Crow and Roger R. Milk. Seeking one position in District 2 (Butte Creek/Okreek) are incumbent Steve DeNoyer, Jr., Byron L. Wright and Kenneth E. Night Pipe.

Sixteen people for four open positions in District 3 (Antelope) include incumbents Jo A. Colombe, Eddie C. Farmer and Louis Wayne Boyd. Also Earl Bordeaux, ImaJean Charging Elk Stoneman, Paul Valandra, Shirley A. (Swan) Medearis, Heather D. Burnette, Cyril Whitey Scott, Theresa E. Poignee, Harold J. Fuller, Sr., C. Rae Burnette, Lois D. Antoine, Patti Romero, Marrles W. Moore and Larry Wright. Incumbent Scott Herman did not file for re-election.

District 4 (Ring Thunder/Soldier Creek). Candidates include incumbent Darrell C. Marcus, Patricia L. Douville, Norman D. Running, Sr. and Valerie Crazy Bull. They vie for one position.

Fourteen candidates from District 5 (St. Francis) vying for three positions include incumbents Wanda F. Brave-McCauley, Richard "Rick" Young, Jr. and Michael Boltz, Sr. Also Joe Ford, Bonnie J. Hairy Shirt, Monica Rabbitt, Roy Spotted War Bonnet, Willard E. Henry, Sharon L. Swift, David Whiting, Richard Verdell Metcalf, Reginald Left Hand Bull, Sr., Don B. Luxon, Sr. and Patsy Valandra.

Vying for one seat from District 6 (Spring Creek/Two Strike) include incumbent Eric Nixon, Michael Crow Eagle, Sr., Darlene R. Kills In Water/Metcalf and Sylvan White Hat, Sr.

Vying for one seat in District 7 (Grass Mountain/Upper Cut Meat) are incumbent Barbara McCloskey-Duysak, Alfred T. Bone Shirt, Meyer Leading Fighter, Sr., Seth H. Big Crow, Sr., Marion Young-One Star, Dinah Crow Dog and Cheryl Spotted Tail-Wright. One representative will be chosen from District 8 (Swift Bear). Candidates include incumbent Anthony Castaway, Julia Charging Whirlwind, James Rattling Leaf, Brent Spotted Elk, Robert Becker and Delano Clairmont.

Vying for one seat in District 9 (Parmelee) are incumbent Robert Shot With Two Arrows, Lila Young, Melvin Shot With Two Arrows, Sr., Betty I. Red Owl and Victor Young.

Vying for three seats in District 10 (Rosebud) are incumbents Rodney Bordeaux and Lenard Wright. Also Floyd Reynolds, Jesse Clairmont, Sr., Conrad Black Bear, Bill Giroux, Ronald "Jock" Gassman, Janet Clairmont-Thompson, Pete Reynolds, Kenneth W. Ladeaux and Irvin Young, Jr. Incumbent Fern Bordeaux-Boltz did not file for re-election.

Vying for one seat in District 11 (Black Pipe/He Dog) are incumbent Christine Dunham, Douglas Q. Moran, Sr., Russell Eagle Bear, Anthony “Bow” Hacker, Fred Arrow and Rose Mary "Sis" Lafferty.

Incumbent Fremont Fallis in District 12 (Corn Creek/Horse Creek) having filed for the office of Vice-president, vying for one seat are Glenn Quick Bear and Webster Two Hawk.

Vying for one seat in District 13 (Bull Creek/Milk's Camp) are incumbent Clifford Chasing Hawk, Jr., Charles Bull Bear, Pauline Chasing Hawk-Pourier and William Bear Shield.

That piece of red, white and blue cloth stands for a system and a country that does not honor it's own word...If it stood for honor and truth, it would remember our treaties and give them the appropriate place under international law. But it doesn't. It dishonors its own word and violates its treaties...
