Council Relatives
Black Hills People's News
Dear Editor,
When the position of the Rosebud Sioux Tribes Courthouse Administrator
came on the floor, the Council representatives were asked to vote on the
termination of Antelopes Council woman Joanne Colombe Sister Carmen
Hicks. Well this would also place Carmen as a Auntie of Wayne Boyd who is
married to Joannes daughter in law. Wayne should of recuse himself, but
in their true fashion was permitted to vote to again perpetuate a bad
situation at the Court house.
The issue of Alcohol as a major Health and
Social Problem, with Violence against Children and Women here on the
Rosebud Indian Reservation as a start Reality, THIS HAS TO STOP!!!! We
all know he runs the Prairie Hill Club a Alcohol Out let. His Uncle
Charles Colombe is trying to get his Alcohol supporting ducks in order to
open another Liquor store out there by Mission,S.D. much to the disgust
of Our Lakota Elders and Oyate.
The American Indian Movement and Other
Human Rights organizations have been advocating for the closure of the
Alcohol sales on White Clay Nebraska. Here on the Rosebud Alcohol sales
are running rampant out of control. It is easy Money for those who can
get their foot in the door to sell Alcohol to Our People. The Problems
that Alcoholism and Drugs cause are so high and the Currant Council of
the Rosebud Sioux Tribes are sitting on their hands and looking the other
way when it comes to addressing this major Health and Social problem.
We
need All the good honest Lakota Spiritual leaders as well as the Local
Churches to make this a priority and not allow Charles Colombe or any
other individuals to open and take advantage of a very bad situation of
Alcoholism. The Health problems, car wrecks, violence, and especially
The Violence its creates against Our Children and Women cannot be
dismissed.
During the last Liquor Commission hearing a good number of
people reported that money was given to them to go out and support the
opening of another outlet. We know People as well as some of the
so-called Spiritual Leaders who drink are being bought off to support
Alcohol sales. This isn't going to work anymore. I think a good majority
of the local residents of the Rosebud Indian reservation are waking up to
the Exploitation taking place here. Our Lakota people as well as our
friends who are suffering from this Alcohol problem deserve a helping
hand. The Reality of this is That Prayers do work and people can stop
their drinking. We need People to take a active role in not allowing any
more alcohol sales here on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. We don't need
political bought off individuals to be placed on these Liquor Commissions
to Allow it to happen. Other tribes are offering rewards for information
to stop their Drug Problems, Other Tribes are actually helping People
over come substance abuse. I Pray that we can Too, as a Lakota Nation and
as the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
I propose that We, begin the process of
organizing Protests and walks to Stop the sales of Alcohol here on the
Rosebud.
Aho, hecetu yelo

That piece of red, white and blue cloth stands for a system and a country that does not honor it's own word...If it stood for honor and truth, it would remember our treaties and give them the appropriate place under international law. But it doesn't. It dishonors its own word and violates its treaties... In Honor of Tony Black Feather (Died August 11 2004) |
