DRAFT CONSTITUTION OF THE BLACKFOOT (PIIKANI) NATION (added Feb 2003)
The above is a link to the full draft constitution of the Blackfoot Nation. "Pockets of Resistance" has a page on the draft consitution with "highlights from the draft Blackfoot Constitution now undergoing approval and fine-tuning...that distinguish themselves by contrast with typical colonizer constitutions. The vice-chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs on Monday said he would introduce a measure this week to restore full sovereignty to tribal governments.

Plan would streamline recognition of tribes (5 Feb 2003)
The government could move faster in granting coveted federal recognition to Indian tribes but the public would have to wait for information on the recognition petitions under a proposal Tuesday by the new chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs.

That piece of red, white and blue cloth stands for a system and a country that does not honor it's own word...If it stood for honor and truth, it would remember our treaties and give them the appropriate place under international law. But it doesn't. It dishonors its own word and violates its treaties...
